Solemnity of the Assumption
of the Blessed Virgin Mary
August 15, 2010
This feast invites us to see Mary’s story as our own,
to remember that we are wholly loved,
wholly blessed, wholly redeemed.
“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his Name."
Luke 1
Thoughts for reflection:
Consider some way in which you feel blessed
and thank God for that blessing
in the words of Mary's Magnificat.
The Magnificat is sung or recited each evening
as an integral part of Vespers,
the liturgical evening prayer of the Church.
For almost two thousand years this prayer has rung
out in praise and gratitude to God.
We can join our voices with the voice of Mary
by making the Magnificat our own song.
